Stepping up my painting game!

I've always been very particular about colours - I like certain shades, am extra fond of muted jewel tones, and like combinations that pop. With this in mind, I rarely ever find paint colours I can use straight from the tube and end up mixing my own instead.  This process is enjoyable but can be quite tedious when my perfectly mixed paint dries and I want to continue working on the same project the next day.  The solution? Making my very own custom coloured paint pots! Aha! Why in the world did this take me so long to figure out? So I took a nice little trip over to the Dollarama, picked up some sweet stackable small containers, and got to mixin'! Here is what I ended up with:

Yay! I promise you they are even more stunning in person and make my crafting/painting life so much easier.  Now I am free to paint for as long as I'd like and still be able to come back and continue without more mixing! Oh the world is a wonderful place! Sure I'm missing out on the fun of mixing up the colours but if I want a new tone I can just start a new pot! Plus they lock together for easy storage:

Ooo those mid-centurty modern colour palettes are dreamy. I am now substantially more efficient when it comes to acrylics and used these lovely custom colours to make 26 different necklaces last week. Apparently I went a smidge overboard with the painted beads and pendants but who wouldn't go nuts over perfect colour tones? I'll be sharing my creations over the next while and you'll be able to see these colours in action! What about you? Are you also the colour police?

Forever ill

Does anyone else out there find these ecards hilariously on point? like...all the time? I certainly do and this one falls particularly close to home these days.

My friend Hetty phoned me a few days ago and asked me, "Hey Kate - are you busy?"

I paused. I thought. "No...not really. Whats up?"

Hetty:  "I was wondering if it would be ok if I popped by and borrowed Game of Thrones Seasons 1-3 from you."

Me: "Oh! I don't have to shower OR get out of my jammies for that! Of course you can!"

Yep. I actually considered saying I was somewhat busy in fear of having to put actual real clothes on and go out into the world. No, I'm not a hermit - but I have been suffering with severe chronic illness for many months now (plus a lovely cold/sinus infection this week) and getting dressed seemed like entirely too much effort than it's worth. The majority of my energy these days is spent trying to rest up and get healthy - thankful two things that do not require me to wear a bra. Perfect.

Feeling like Foliage

I couldn't help but fall in love with these darling (and quite odd) images from "urbans and indians" (link). Why yes - the website is in Dutch, but no need to translate if you're like me and mostly interested in the imagery. Take a gander:

(source)

Or perhaps you're into the larger fronds?

(source)

or my personal fave...

(source)

It really makes be wish I had a series of these hanging in my house somewhere. Or maybe I need to crochet up some cacti costumes for Fraser and I to sport for a nice xmas card photo? Or heck - I may as well aim to dress up and send out silly wedding thank you cards because I am sure am taking a million years to send those out! Oh dear! That would require me finding my very much missing address book so first things first - plant costumes. It's all about the priorities.

Ring-ding-ding-ding

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better than Ylvis' "the fox" song and video (link) take a gander at this ridiculously cute t-shirt design (link):

(source)

Yep. It was pretty much destine to trigger an explosion of "what does the fox say" merch - but the cuteness of this one snags my attention for sure! Look at those little pudgy (and happy) dancing fox moves! Ah! I'm melting! If only real foxes were so jovial.

What does the fox say?

Just in case there is any chance you've missed this viral and extremely catchy piece of internet gold. Take the next few minutes and be bizarrely entertained:

Wasn't that something else? I'm certainly a fan...but not as thrilled when I realize that the song has been stuck in my head for the last month. Minor details....

Took me a minute...

Just in case you're suffering from a case of the Mondays (and really like random Vanilla Ice references) - enjoy:

(source)

I may have enjoyed this a bit too much, but hopefully you will find it equally entertaining. If not - perhaps you need to listen to more 90's rap.  Happy Monday!

Math Meme

I must say there is nothing quite like a lolcat math joke:

(source)

Ahaha! How enjoyable! Now if only it was was showing an acute angle and not something closer to a right one... How is your week going? See anything cute lately?

If only

I can honestly say I can not imagine a better sight to come across when opening the freezer door:

(source)

I think I now need to:

1) become more creative
2) increase my sneakiness
3) start putting any and all toys/action figures/models/random anthropomorphized objects in interesting (and witty) places
and
4) master this so when I have children I can claim the title of "coolest and geekiest mom ever!!!"

Yup. That's my plan. What do you think?

Friday Find: Kitty Wigs

Today's find is brought to us by a lovely email sent to me by Lindsay.  After all, who doesn't need to buy a nice wig for their cat? Check out these beauties:

(source)
With lots of colours and shapes to chose from Kitty Wigs (link) is sure to suit all your feline do needs and if nothing else is very entertaining to check out. I'm not sure if I'm about to shell out $65 plus shipping for one of these yet (especially since I don't have a cat)...but the links are there in case you're in a buying mood! Happy Friday!

Don't Mess with the Guy on a Buffalo-oh

My roommate Jim finds much joy trying to annoy me with his singing. He kept going on and on about "a guy oh a buffalo!" and told me I needed to go to you tube to fully understand. So I did...and this is the result:

Why yes, that is ridiculously silly and catchy. Looks like you've won this round Jim...this round...

loves me some llama

When I saw this lovely image over on Jen's blog (Red Parka) I just had to post it (link)! I mean - who doesn't love a llama riding in a car in 1957? Just look at that face:

(source)

Yup - I sure do love me some llama. This also gives me the opportunity to point you over to that side bar which links to nine lovely ladies' amazing blogs! I'm lucky enough to have them keeping me company on my homepage and keeping me entertained with witty, crafty, sometimes hilarious posts like Jen's plethora of cool finds. Yup. My sponsors rock. Happy Wednesday (unofficial llama riding in a car day!) Yay!

my new mug

Since Fraser is off on his practicum for a few months I decided I needed to buy myself a present to help cheer up all my time alone! Nothing perks up quiet time quite like a cup of tea (and retail therapy) - so I got myself a new tea mug:

Oh it may look a bit plain from that picture, but wait until you see the surprise inside the mug!:

Ahahaha! Why hello little octopus! It isn't quite as charming and handmade as the creature cups I posted about last Friday (link), but just like Alison commented last week - I could pick this one up from the bookstore down the road and skip out on the pricey shipping! Woo woo! Just check out that charming packaging too:

Nothing like a few tentacles and an exclamation mark to seal the deal! Mind you, I'm not sure this is a perfect substitute for months without Fraser but it seems to be a pretty sweet temporary fix! Now what to buy next when this wears off....

OM NOM NOM

Oh internet -  you are an endless source of entertainment and this picture is certainly no exception:

(source)

Oh dear! When I first saw this (thanks to Lindsay of course) I laughed so much my abs hurt. How can you not love that expression? Yup. Looks like today is all about off-taste images. Hopefully it will brighten up your Thursday!

Insanity Puppy

Just in case I over-cat-ed you yesterday. Here is a cute (and sort of scary/funny) puppy:

(source)

Ahahaha! Hetty pinned this last night and it reminded me of all the hilarious insanity puppy images off quickmeme.com that Jim showed me ages ago (link). Haha oh dear. Happy Wednesday!

bffs

The other day Fraser sent me this image as a text message:

Yup. Fraser and Beauregard. BFFs. Thanks Fraser. I can't wait to see what you send me next!

Beauregard

When I was a little kid, I loved cows. I spent ever waking moment I could out at my grandparents' cattle farm and just couldn't get enough bovine! In fact, from 1996 - 1997 my friend Pam and I created our own cow themed holiday called "Happy Cow Day" in which we celebrated cows by giving each other cow themed presents on the 25th of each month. Although my cow obsession has decreased substantially since the late 90's, they still hold a special spot in my heart and not surprisingly, my mom still thinks of me and Happy Cow Day whenever she sees cow related things. On her last visit to the island she brought me an adorable plush cow (well, bull) keychain and Fraser suggested we hang him up in the car. Take a peek:

Mr. Bull remained nameless for a few weeks until one day Fraser and I were out for a drive. The conversation went as follows:

Out of nowhere Fraser excitingly asked me: "Do you know what a great name for a bowl would be?"

Me: "A bowl? Are we naming our dishes now? What will our cups be called?"

Fraser: "No, no, not bowl - bull!"

Me: "Bowl? Fraser - I don't get it"

(this went on for much too long and for the record Fraser's pronunciation of "bowl" and "bull" sound close to identical)

Eventually - Fraser: "No, like a male cow - a bull!"

Me: "Oooohhh...what would a good name be?"

Fraser: "Beauregard!"

Me: "That is a pretty great name - but 'Bowl-regard' would be pretty awesome too!"

(and then I laughed manically for a good minute or so...)

Yup, our lives are pretty silly. Oh, and just in case you need further convincing, one night when Fraser and I were chatting in bed he mentioned how Beauregard was becoming one of the highlights of his day. He's always hanging out happily swaying from the rear view mirror and we come up with little scenarios for his secret life where he's a brilliant astrophysicist/brain surgeon that lives on a fancy estate in the country (with special gourmet grass meals and everything). We both giggled about how great our little stuffed bull is and then decided that instead of thinking of our Beauregard fantasies as "sort of sad and totally crazy" that they can be describes as "endearing, quirky, and (above all) highly entertaining!"Oh dear. And then I wrote a huge rambling blog post about it...

Nice Expression Jean...

This is quite possibly the funniest picture I have seen in a long time. I think this one (specifically that facial expression) will haunt Jean for many years to come. Just check out my niece as captured by my brother in law Neal:

Ahahahahhaha! So hilarious (and cute)! That girl sure loves running and I the pigtails really top it off. Hopefully you find it equally funny and it's not just a "Kate is the crazy Aunt showing too many pictures of her niece" moment. Oh dear. What's on the agenda for your Wednesday? Any funny pictures or links to share to perk up the mid week?

the secret is out...

The secret is out folks, I'm exhausted from my rainy (make that very rainy) day selling at Bastion Square! So instead of a well thought out post - you get this:

Oh that sneaky elephant - always up to no good! Happy Monday!

Somebody Tasty!

Life has caught up with me recently and I haven't been scheduling blog posts ahead of time like I usually do.  Instead I've been throwing together posts with whatever is currently tickling my fancy the night before and hoping it is somewhat entertaining to you lovely blog readers out there! Today is yet another one of those posts and when searching for silly dinosaur crafts I came across this (which isn't actually a craft at all...and just an image...):

(source)
Oh my! The lovely illustrated works of Gemma Correll never fail to disappoint! I love following her on instagram and seeing what silly (and marvelously entertaining) things she comes up with next! Strangely enough it turns out that she drew the "who invited the herbivore" tshirt I oogled over yesterday! How about that?  Funny how I don't seem to put things together and after seeing it was her print - I totally recognize that charming drawing style. Oh what a small dinosaur loving world! Any thoughts? Eaten anyone tasty lately?

Hungry Threadless Dinosaurs

Apparently it's dino week here on the blog, and since I've been seeing so many fun illustrations of eating dinosaurs I thought I'd share my three faves you can purchase in tshirt form from the ever popular online shop Threadless! Let's take a peek:

1) Who invited the herbivore?

(source)

2) Know your dinosaurs

(source)

3) Omnomnomivore (my person fave)

(source)

Hehe! What a great combination of cute, silly, and prehistoric! It certainly makes me want to do a little online tshirt shopping but for now I'll stick to enjoying these gems in online form! What do you think? Which do you like best? Are you a graphic dinosaur tshirt enthusiast?
