Rainbow fun!

With spring in full swing I've been spotting lots of fun rainbow themed projects around the internet and I'd love to share a few with you to brighten up your thursday! Let's go!

Rainbow fun #1 - organized crafting area from pinterest! I would love to say my crafting nook is this neat and colour coordinated but sadly I am far from this level. It is certainly fun to dream/drool over though! (I'm particularly jealous of those coloured tapes)

Rainbow fun #2 - candy wrapper pouch tutorial from punkin patterns! This project looks like a ton of fun and gives me the wonderful excuse to go out and eat some candy! I think it would be a ton of fun to make for the kiddos or keep for yourself. Plus little zippered pouches always come in handy right?

Rainbow fun #3 - Nyan Cat video. My sister posted this on my facebook wall a few days ago and insisted that I watched the entire thing. You certinaly don't need to sit through 3:37 minutes to see how cute this one is (and how catchy that song is!) I love the little tail and feet running - but it does make me wonder why that kitty has a poptart body....enjoy:

Hooray! Happy thursday everyone!

Crafty Peep Swap!

becky farleys craft blog

Amber and Becky are hosting a super fun spring time crafty peep swap and I am overjoyed to sign up! Just head on over to either of the ladies wonderful blogs by april 15th and leave a comment saying you're up for the challenge (then email becky so confirm/give her your email) and then get crafting! You only need to make one wonderful spring themed item by any means you feel fit and once we're all paired up you've got until the end of the month to get it in the mail! What fun! A chance for me to stretch even more of my stiff crafting muscles and maybe make a new crafty friend from who knows where during the process! Yay! If you're feeling adventuring I totally think you should sign up too - no blogging required you closet crafters - this one is just for fun! I can't wait to get working on this (after brooch week is over of course) and I'll show you my creation! Hooray! What are you going to make?

Royal Knits

Just in case you 1) have way too much time on your hands, 2) are feeling inspired to take on massive knitting projects, or 3) are totally infatuated with the royal family - behold - the knit your own royal wedding book:

Yup! Just in time to celebrate the marriage of prince william and kate middleton this book lets you recreate the historic occasion in yarn! I love the attention to detail and how there is wire inside each yarn royal and yarn bystander so you can pose them as you see fit:

Take a close up peek at some of the characters you can build (my personal fav is the queen - just look at those royal accessories!):

Couldn't forget the corgis! At first glance I thought this book was super bizarre but after further investigation I'm going to settle with it being hilarious and quirky. After all, I do have wool felted acorns and squirrel hanging up above my kitchen sink so who am I to judge? Unfortunately I'm not a knitter yet so I'll be forced to pass on this project but it's available on amazon to fit your home shopping needs! What do you think of the book?

put it back

Ok, so I'm not big into april fool's day jokes (that and we're one day late) but this commercial my sister sent me is one of the funniest things I've seen in a while. Turn your sound on, put your finger on the skittle, and enjoy:

Hehe! What a bizarre advertising campaign! Since I don't have cable I miss out on all the fun commercials (and conveniently get to skip the other 99% of ads that are brainwashing and terrible). I do enjoy skittles though (especially the red ones) and kitties even more (the real ones - not the beard groomed into whiskers kind)! Anyone know any other fun ads I should check out?

30

Today is my dear sister's 30th birthday and instead of a regular blog post I've decided to make one dedicated to her! Okay...that and I don't have a huge amount of time allotted to writing blog posts while I am frantically crafting up a storm. So let's celebrate 30 years of leslie with 5 fun facts about my sis:

1) Leslie is fun to dress up and go dancing with...or just dress up and pose for pictures!

2) Leslie loves agates!

3) Leslie makes super awesome yarn crafts!

4) Leslie is a great kitchen dancing companion!

and 5) Leslie has one cute baby!

Hehehe! Ok - so by "fun facts" I really meant "five facts that I had pictures supporting on my computer", but that was fun wasn't it? Happy bday les!

Hipster Bingo

I saw this the other day on man made diy and thought it was pretty amusing - behold - hipster bingo:

Just in case spotting hipsters isn't already funny enough (lindsay and fraser and I once saw one all dolled up by a bus stop in downtown vancouver "reading" some classic novel but actually just posing and trying to look super awesome - which he was failing at) you can make a game out of it! The cards are available on etsy and come with the most amusing instructions:

1. LOCATE HIPSTERS.
2. Take out Bingo card.
3. Use found items like change or bottle caps for game pieces. If hipsters are nearby this means you will be able to find plenty of pennies, guitar picks, cigarette butts, mustache combs...
4. PLAY hipster bingo!

Unfortunately I don't see a "fake reading a book" square on there but it the bingo certainly reminds me of that sighting...and how much I wish I took a picture of him! That's it - new goal for 2011 - more photo journalism! How are you doing with your resolutions?

March!

February is a deceivingly short month. The past 28 days seemed to just fly by and finally we're onto the month of spring! I'm hoping the old wives' tale doesn't come true this march and this month will come in and go out as a lamb - but I certainly enjoy the lamb/lion pairing on my calendar:

March promises to be a super awesome month with a whole slew of happenings including:

1) a new march soundtrack (featuring some new favourites)

2) mother mother's new album "eureka" comes out (which I may have a sneak copy of and absolutely love)

3) the first day of spring! (and not a moment too soon - goodbye winter)

4) my sister's 30th bday (what in the world am I going to get her/I hope you like belated presents les)

and

5) my fabulous finds craft show! hooray! take a peek at the fabulous poster:

Eee! I'm so excited (slash super stressed out about all the crafts I need to get done in time)! I'm aiming to have the majority of my preparations done by about the 18th leaving a week to do some final touch ups. That is a pretty bold goal (judging by how little I have done at this point) but I am always up for a challenge! What does march hold for you?

Dr. Bandaid and a series of puns

It seems that I've talked about the amazing webcomic "my cardboard life" on quite a few occasions (link, link, link). Clearly I should give up my attempts to get any of my readers hooked on the wonderful british cut and pasted comic strips but apparently I'm up for one more try! I was looking through my mass amounts of "draft" blog posts (a.k.a. when I see a tutorial/blog post/random thing I like then save the link as a "draft new post" for future uninspired blogging moments) and came across some wonderful comics featuring three of my favourite things - dr. bandaid, terrible awkward attempts at romance, and puns! With valentines day peeking up on the horizon I figured it was now or never to revisit these with you. Let's be serious here - who doesn't love a good pun? Here we go:

and then the ultimate in valentine'y goodness:

Oh dear - dr. bandaid - one day your puns will work for you. I have also discovered that you can even purchase your own "dr. bandaids hot guide to romance" on the site too! OooO! And they have a digital paper doll colin/pauline dress up game there too! Once again proving the well known fact that everything is better when it comes from the UK...*sigh*

Hello 2011!

Why hello january and hello a fabulous new year! I hope your holiday celebrations treated you well and that you are all ramped up and ready for 2011! To continue with the festive new years theme I thought I'd share a favourite calvin and hobbes comic with you:

Oh calvin. You are pretty much my sister leslie in every way! (don't you think mom?). Ok...maybe not...but it is sure a cute comic anyways. How is your 2011 going? Any new resolutions you'd like to share?

Let it dough

Not sure if you've seen the amazing dough tale from the NY times yet, but just in case you haven't here are the highlights for you:

So that was more of a truncated version it is still wonderful! I highly recommend checking out the original version in all its awesomeness! And now I really want cookies...and sprinkles too...

Eep!

After reading AJ the Purple's blog post yesterday morning I came to the a scary realization - there is less than a week before xmas! Eep! And with such little time left I also realized that I only really have one day off work where I can prepare for the big day! (Double eep!) So instead of breaking into panic I've decided I should just focus on all the awesome things that have been going on lately instead and worry about the preparations later. Sounds like the perfect plan right? Good! Let's go!

Awesome thing #1: I managed to wrap my gift exchange present! I certainly hoped I was going to pull that one off (especially since the exchange was last night) and I sort of drew inspiration from yesterday's blog post. Check out yarn and doily wrapped present:

A little bit of a doily overload under that tree of mine but who can say no to a good doily? (Answer = clearly not me) If I had a little more time to put it together I'm sure it would have been slightly more impressive (and probably include a few pom poms) but I am pleased with how it turned out! Hopefully it was a hit at the party too!

Awesome thing #2: Joel Plaskett is following me on twitter! This seriously made my day on friday! Next step? Sway him into purchasing something of mine from etsy and have celebrity exposure! Forget photoshopping Dan Mangan...Joel could do it for free!

Awesome thing #3: Xmas cards! One of the best things about this time of year is all the mail you get! I've acquired some xmas gems too, take a peek:

Awesome thing #4: Blooming xmas cactus! After a disappointing relocation of bob (my ficus - since apparently they can't handle cold bursts of air and shouldn't be by doors) I was so happy to see that my cactus is doing well! So pretty:

Hooray! Fun awesome things! Now to stay calm and frantically make it through the rest of the holiday alive! How is your xmas preparation coming along?

Wrap it up.

With xmas right around the corner the internet has been oozing with amazing gift wrapping ideas! I thought I'd share my favourite three with you just in case you're lacking inspiration. First up? The vintage inspired (and awesomely photographed) ideas from thompson family-life:

Just goes to show you that those scalloped boarders teachers use on bulletin boards are multipurpose! I love the fun colours and patterns! Oh and if these aren't your style, not to worry, they've got loads of other wrapping ideas on their blog post.

Second on my list is the charming red paper snowflake design from nice package:

After further inspection it turns out this tutorial is actually from how about orange (another blog I often refer back to) but man it is neat! I totally want to experiment with fun coloured paper snowflakes too! Check out the garland they made with some paper, scissors, and dental floss:

Finally we've got a video tutorial my sister linked me to using yarn for your wrapping:

Cool! I really like the pom pom (obviously) and woven yarn ones best. Now all I need to do is decide which wrapping method I like best (or a combination of multiple?) to make my gift exchange present extra desirable for the staff xmas party tonight! What do you think?

Cone-iferous Advent Calendar

I found this amazing advent calendar after browsing on the internet for a while and although it might be a little late, I still love it! Too bad I didn't come across this earlier and make everyone a cone-iferous forest of awesome:

Such a sweet idea! And super easy too! Just need to get my hands on tons of green paper and some fun advent like prizes! OOoo! Maybe next year? Man, I love advent calendars! And unlike one certain sister of mine I am able to hold off on present opening for added anticipation and fun! Have any of you ever put together a fun advent calendar before?
