a very special etsy request

Once in a while I get messages on etsy asking for special orders. Even though I would love to accept every one, unfortunately some of them are outside my creative reaches. The other day however, I got one request that was easy to fill and boy was it ever fun! Two wonderful scientists from Edinburgh asked me to make individually packaged magnets as favours for their wedding reception guests! I was so stoked to jump on the order and printed out some special mini "thanks for coming" cards:

Yay! The perfect size for one of the science geek themed magnets Emma chose (robots, dinoaurs, and scientists)! Take a peek:

So much fun! I love the idea of having little illustrated magnets as wedding favours and (of course) am extra thrilled that they chose me to make them! Of course I did have some help making such a massive order...

Yay! Pajama magnet making party with Fraser! What a great guy he is (and ever so helpful)! Thanks Fraser! and thanks to Emma for letting me take part in your magical sciencey wedding! What do you think? What would your ideal wedding favour be?

Mini Break Crafting! Day 3 of 11

While I am exploring the sites of LA today you can enjoy another one of my Studio Ghibili mini break crafts - soot sprite magnets! Check them out:

I'm still totally loving all the wool felt Fraser got for me last week and I thought I'd try to break away from my felt brooches with a more universal craft - felt magnets! These little guys were a ton of fun to whip up and although you can barely see them, I did include some little smiles on these dudes since I couldn't add them to my soot sprite pom poms:

Since I didn't get to altering all my images of my crafts before I left on vacation I'll have to wait until I return from my trip before listing them in my etsy shop - but be patient! They'll make it in there in a week and a half! Hope you're enjoying craft week! What do you think of the magents?

Magnets Galore!

Why yes, 2010 is officially a year for progress with my crafting! Not only have I managed to jump into the world of craft shows - but I'm also the proud new wholesale seller to a lovely new toy store in town! Yup, tumbleweed toys now carries a plethora of my wide set eye smile magnets:

Awesome! I'm so excited to see my lovingly crafted goods make it out into the real world! You know, get some fresh air and all of that, and I think tumbleweed toys is a great place for them to start out! They are all about sustainable, safe, and locally produced toys which I'm sure parents would be pleased to spend some cash on. Oh! And I also got the opportunity to whip out my paper crafting supplies to make a sign to go with the magnet display:

Oh thumbs up yeti! Always popping up to spread some enthusiastic optimism! And conveniently adorable enough in cardstock form for my magnet sign while my printer is waiting to be unpacked! Yay! You may remember him from my handmade holiday cards from last year, but this time I decided to skip the artsy background and go for simplicity. What do you think? Oh and if you're in the area, feel free to stop by tumbleweed toys if you're in a magnet mood...I'm sure yeti will cheerfully give you a thumb-full greeting while you're there...

New Magnets too!

After feeling ridiculously ill for way too long, I decided to try to push the flu/dizziness aside and tackle a few items on my to do list! So with the towels and sheets in the wash, I was ready to make some of my new button sets into magnets! Hooray! Behold the photographic evidence:

Oh how lovely! Now all my sets are available in magnet form in the shop! There was much better lighting than the last time I tried to take pictures of my new sets too. Wonderful! It was curious how I managed to get the photos done so quickly and then realized why that was....here's a hint:

Oh stinkums. Those are some cute little feet sticking out of that blanket. I couldn't resist the under blanket peek:

So cute! If only he wasn't so evil! Now I just need to try to schedule my picture taking around percy's nap times! Theoretically that shouldn't be too hard since he naps like 18 hours a day...but you'd be surprised. That cat is pure evil. Pure adorable evil.

Magnet time!

Due to the overwhelming success of my first dabble in magnets, I've decided to offer all of my button sets in magnet form! Now available in my shop!

Ok...that's sort of a lie..they weren't that successful...I just found some magnets that work on my 1" buttons - but same thing right? Because not everyone likes wearing pins, but everyone has a fridge (and if you don't you probably wouldn't be interested in getting these magnets anyways)! Hurray! Magnets for all!!!

El Gato Diablo

As I've mentioned a few times before (i.e. here, here, and here), Percy is one heck of an evil cat. Adorable? You bet! But very much satan spawn. He'll win you over with his overwhelming cuteness (especially that fuzzy kitty tummy) then sneak attack in an unstoppable hissing batting claw-y tornado. I'm fairly sure one of his favourite past times is getting conveniently right in the way of my etsy photo shoots too. Not that he is all bad - just bad to a few people...and strangers...and males...and probably 90% of the people who come into this household...but still... he is awfully adorable. So adorable in fact that my mom likes to take loads of pictures of him and send them to everyone in our family. One person in particular being my sister - who doesn't really know what she's supposed to do with all these pictures since stinkums doesn't really like her anyways.

Well, this past xmas I bought my sister these cool magnets that are shaped like speech bubbles that you can write on with dry erase marker to creatively (and wittily) jazz up your fridge with. They were so cool in fact that I got them way back in September when I went on my second excursion to Victoria! Best of all they give purpose to all those Percy photos!!! What a great combo: evil kitty pics + sweet write on magnets = pure awesome. Take a look:

and my personal fav:

Hahaha - yup, still think they're hilarious. How about you?

A dabble in the world of magnets

Thanks to some magnet-y inspiration from my work mate amy, I decided to trial-run love robot, mustache kitten, and thumbs up yeti magnet sets (since I was already committed to round three of button construction anyways). I'm quite pleased with how they turned out too! I mean how awesome do they look holding up my business card, a "wayne's wiener world" post card, and that half a backstreet boy? My only hesitation is that they cost twice as much to make and will cost more in shipping, but hey....they might be twice as cool as buttons so hopefully people will be willing to shell out a little more for them...we'll see....

Get your hand off my tail, you'll make it dirty

At long last the return of albi magnet sets:

Based on the loving tale of Albi the racist dragon, this magnet set depicts characters seen on HBO's Flight of the Conchords (season 1, episode 7)

Set includes: Albi the racist dragon, the badly burnt Albanian boy from the day before, and that magical dragon tear turned jelly bean (all the colours of the rainbow) that put a stop to racism in New Zealand!

These polymer clay gems have been a hot seller since my shop's opening in october '08 allowing me to not only practice being an obsessive Jemaine Clement fan but also my mad sculpting and painting skills. This is the fourth time I've recreated my original magnet set and finally I've decided to go big or go home...

well...not that big...
