Hi Honey.

Well my parents are heading back to Kamloops this morning and it looks like things will be getting mighty lonely around these parts. Fraser is finished with classes for the semester and will be off to Kamloops for his practicum soon - leaving little old me to fend for myself in Victoria. I am extra tempted to get myself my own beast pillow to keep me company (like this one I saw in Pikaland):

I love the colour combination on this guy and can totally imagine coming home to him after work and watching some nice Turner Classic Movies on the couch with him. He looks like a Fred don't you think? Unfortunately there is at least a two month wait for one of these pals in debivanzl's Etsy shop so either I need to make my own or go without. *Ssigh*. Maybe all my alone time will give me ample motivation to get knitting! What do you think? Anyone want to come over and teach me how to make a Fred friend?

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! In my world, it's a perfect day for celebrating bunnies, cute baby spring animals, and (of course) binging on easter candy! Hooray! Since my parents are down visiting for the long weekend I thought I'd turn the tables on them and make a special surprise ma and pa Easter egg hunt for them! However, unlike the egg hunts of my childhood I didn't buy a single panned egg (we always got those, and they are pretty gross):

Nope this year I bought some custom "sugar free for mom" and "anything candy like for dad" bulk treats that I've packed up in some plastic eggs I got in Langford (don't worry, I washed them first). To differentiate mom and dad's eggs I put little pink hearts on the ones for my mom (and hope the will be good enough). Take a gander:

I don't know why more people don't do egg hunts like this! You can fill them with your favourite candies and don't have to worry about getting melted chocolate or candy crumbs all over the house! Hurrah! I hope my parents are excited for their early morning egg hunt! How about you? What sort of traditions does your family have at Easter? What's your favourite candy to hunt for? Anyone else smart enough to stuff those fun coloured plastic eggs?

Herbs - Round Two.

Apparently my herb gardening skills are lacking because the lovely thriving herbs I had going in February (link) are almost all dead. I think I under and then over watered them and half of them got some spiderweb-y mold on them and they all died off. Parsley is making a slight comeback and I'm trying my best not to kill him off a second time. Take a peek at their sad state:

Shucks! Looks like fresh herbs just aren't my thing. I figure I'd give it one more go and invest in actual potting soil and some larger pots! I figure if I manage to keep this round of herbs alive they can eventually be moved out to the patio in the summer. I bought another mint plant and got some rosemary and cilantro seeds. Check out round two:

The mint seems to be doing quite well and I am trying my very best not to neglect and then over water them. There are even some little sprouts popping up in the cilantro pot but I may need to buy another rosemary seed package since there is no progress there...oh well. I'll wait a few weeks and see what happens. Here's to hoping I can keep these babies alive! Any tips for me? Any pro herb growers out there?

Friday Find: Flapper Girl

About a year ago I did a post about making ascot bows to jazz up an outfit and although the response was a little cold (apparently only I was into the giant bows on my front), they haven't left my mind. I did manage to make one ascot last year but never actually got around to wearing it. It goes with a skirt I thrifted and altered and need to re-alter so I can wear it again this spring! Well as you can imagine, when I came across an etsy shop full of retro inspired lady ties (not ascots, but ascot-esque ties for women) I fell in love! Check out the lovely selection of neck pieces from Portland's Flapper Girl:

I really like how the pearl snap holds it together and the variety of prints, fabrics, and embellishments with that underlying shout out to the sweet fashion trends of the 1920s. What a fun way to add a little flair and personality to an outfit! I also really like the idea of wearing one of these on "Tie Tuesdays" at work and having a feminine tie that is still dress code. Although I must admit the brown shirt and jumper in that lower left hand reminds me a bit of an A&W uniform, I am sure you could work it into an outfit without making it look hokey. Heck, Christine's sold loads of these so I'm not the only one who thinks they're rad! What do you think? Could you pull of a lady tie?

Blogness Cards!

Good old moo. A wonderful online print shop with amazingly high quality goods and fantastically enticing packaging:

I do love me some pops of colour on white! And what is in those little boxes you may ask? Why some new mini moo cards of course! After much humming and hawing I decided to make myself some blogness cards (blog business cards for those of you wondering where that word came from)! I often get asked about accessories I'm wearing that I've crafted or why I'm taking pictures in public and figured having some cards to hand out would be the perfect solution. Instead of trying to explain about blogging and stumbling all over my words, I can direct them straight to the source (and even recommend checking out my products page for consignment opportunities too)! Hooray! Take a peek:

Look familiar? I figured making the cards as similar to my blog as possible is the way to go so you can get a sense of my online style and then when you find the site you'll immediate know you've come to the right spot. All my important info is on the back of the card introducing me (and my title - oh la la), the blog URL, and my email so you can get in touch with me:

Yay! I am so thrilled to have blogness cards and can't wait to see them in action. Do you want to get in on the mini moo fun as well? Luckily I've got a discount code for you to enjoy:

Yay! So what do you think? Do you have your own blogness cards? Do you think they'll come in handy for me? What do you think of my amateur design skills?

Paper Cave

When Fraser graduated with his degree in fine art a few years ago, the university held a big art show exhibiting all the works the grad class had worked on all year. Besides Fraser's masterful giant oil paintings - the majority of the installations involved gluing garbage to the walls. Okay, so perhaps it wasn't quite that blunt, it was "artistic" garbage glued into shapes on the walls - but you get the point. The world of academic art certainly goes right over my head and I prefer to stick to aesthetically pleasing art pieces in my life.

Well, the other day I came across a lovely art installation over on the Fossil blog and it reminded me of the coloured garbage pieces at the grad exhibition (in a good way). Turns out the designer Wendy Plomp made a whole slew of colourful paper cone stalagmites and stalactites to create one heck of a pink, white, yellow, and blue paper cave:

Isn't it breath taking? I love the how crisp and cave like it is and the colours they used are just perfect! Take a closer peek:

Oh those are so cool! Now I just need to come up with a reason to have a pink paper cave. I'm clearly not going to be a part of fashion week in Milan (the original purpose for the installation), but I'm sure I can come up with something. Perhaps a cave party? Maybe a bat cave party for little kids with a cheesy batman theme? Sounds like fun to me! What do you think? Anyone up for making a few paper stalactites with me (since I obviously need more things hanging from my ceiling)?

What was I thinking?

Have you ever bought something and then as soon as you get home regret it? You're at a shop and it seems like such a good idea and soon afterwards wonder what in the world you were thinking? I usually avoid buyers regret by cutting out impulse shopping and thinking on most of my purchases - well all but one.

The other day I read a perfectly charming little post from Elsie about lipstick. She said in her blog how she overheard two fashionable older ladies chatting about their favourite lipstick, Revlon's "Love that Pink". She picked it up the next day and weeks later discovered that her grandma had the exact same shade at her home. How sweet. If three old ladies (and one very trendy blogger) approve I figure it was worth a try right? Soon after Fraser and I ended up at Zellers and I figured I could pop in the makeup section and get the lipstick. To my surprise they were sold out. It must be good if Zellers doesn't have it (don't all little old ladies shop there?)! A few days after I decided to pick up some much needed toothpaste and lip balm after work and wouldn't you know it - there it was, Revlon's "Love that Pink" lipstick. Good old London Drugs. Time to rush home and try it out in all it's pink lipped glory:

The verdict? Ack! I looked like a clown! My lips were an ungodly shade of bright pink and with the contrast of my extremely pale white skin, I was far from "loving that pink". What was I thinking? I could have bought a nice block of cheese with that $10 and instead have a once used tube of lipstick that will likely sit at the bottom of my makeup case for the next 15 years. Oh well. Live and learn right? What's the last thing you had buyers regret from?
