Perhaps not the best picture (I took it through the kitchen window) but I did want to show you how much seed they've gone though and I love how the little house sparrow's head it peeking through the plastic! Hooray! I'm so pleased with how this feeder has turned out and I'll have to keep my eyes on it to refill too! So wonderful!
And since we're already on the topic of bird feeders I wanted to share with you am amazing project I spotted from Something Wonderful's blog. Take a look at these charming little tea cup and saucer bird feeders/baths:
Rockie got the idea from a flea market where they were charging $10 for each cup and decided to get some stair railing spindles and some thrift store cups and make her own! What a wonderful idea! She ended up spending $7 for the three cup feeders and now gets to enjoy watching the squirrels and birds enjoy their new food source! I totally want to make some of these (in fact, I've been dreaming about making these for a few days now) and I just love the multi-level finished product! Looks like it is time for me to stop by some thrift stores and start my search for wooden pegs and tea cups! Then (hopefully) my dad (or Fraser) will help me whip them up! Hehe! So much fun!
So what do you think? Do you have a bird feeder? Or maybe some old tea cups and saucers you're willing to donate to my project?

such a fantastic idea, especially for those cups that are too chipped for tea. We've got a chickadee nest in the old stump in our front yard. I'm enjoying watching the pair flit in and out.
ReplyDeleteI do not have a feeder for my balcony. Perhaps if I wasn't plagued by pigeons that poo every where I would be happy to invite the pretty birds for a bite to eat. For now I will just shoot the pigeons with my water gun.
ReplyDeleteI'd say it's an awesome project, but I wouldn't do it until you've already moved house. As someone who has moved a million times, the less stuff you have to take with you (especially breakable stuff), the easier it will be.
ReplyDeleteI love those tea cup feeders!!! I will have to keep my eyes out for cups and saucers then, when your Dad makes yours he can do mine as well. I have baby sparrows in two of my bird houses . It is so nice the see the parents flying in and out feeding their little offspring. Lindsay - about pigeons - I had to stop feeding the birds last winter because of the pigeons. They ate the seed faster then I could put it out. This year I have a fancy bird feeder that tips closed if there are heavy birds eating the seed. I sure hop it works.
ReplyDeleteOhmygosh - how cute are those cup feeders?? Love them! a whole yard of them would be delightful, wouldn't it? I don't have a feeder, myself, because we live in an apartment, but there are robins everywhere right now, so I get my daily bird fix. he he. PS - Did I miss you at the Make It Vancouver show? I remember you mentioning it was in your plans...I hope I didn't see-you-but-not-see-you there, sooo many people passed through that weekend! lol. I hope all is well!
ReplyDeleteThose cup feeders are so cool!
ReplyDeleteI have a teacup trail in my garden. Teacups and saucers on posts all along the paths through the perennials.
