In the marmalade forest

As you may recall, I made some felt Albi magnets back in May when I went on my cruise. They were a ton of work (with lots of tiny stitching details and pieces) and loads of fun to make! I've had a few people email me asking me to make more of these lovely geeky pals so I figured I'd try to please the masses (and my masses I mean two people...) and make some! Let me reunite you with Albi and his friends the badly burned Albainian boy from the day before and the dragon tear turned rainbow jelly bean that put an end to racism:

Aren't they fun? Very similar to the polymer clay magnet set I used to make, but considerably less messy. I also appreciate not having to wait for paint to dry and sculpy to bake. Take a peek at my sculpted version:

Hehe! Those sets were enormously popular a few years back when Flight of the Conchords was still on tv. I think I saturated the handmade FOTC loving market and now I just get a few random die hard fans looking for their own Albi set. I do however still love the heartwarming tale of anti racism just as much as ever and made three new felt sets to list:

Yay! One set is already on its way to its new home in Australia while the other two wait patiently in my craft room to be adopted!

As for me, I'm off spending the day with my family who have come to visit (so no FOTC marathons in my immediate future). How are you spending the weekend?

Mini Break Crafting! Day 8 of 11

Holy crap this vacation of mine seems to be flying by! Today's craft is a felt take on my ever popular Albi the racist dragon magnets. Let me introduce you to the Albi and his friends the badly burned Albainian boy from the day before and the dragon tear turned rainbow jelly bean that put an end to racism:

Pretty fun hey? I've run out of my polymer clay magnets and am not sure when I'll get to making more. I do love sculpting but the painting is super time consuming..not that these felt guys were a quic k project (all that hand stitching takes time), but they were a blast to make. Take a looksie at the set with their friends from Flight of the Conchords:

What fun! And if you are't familiar with the characters I urge you to check out the short video where you meet them! What do you think?

Paper Owl Totem

If you're craving a little more owl in your life (which, I'm sure, you are) let me take a moment to introduce you to my owl barn! It is a lovely blog full of neat owl related inspiration, projects, and products! What fun! It also did the lovely job of drawing my attention to this super fun paper owl totem from chobopop:

Isn't it cute? You can download the owl sections here (for free even) and get creating! And if owls aren't your thing, take a gander back at the paper doll project of everyone's fourth favourite new zealand comedy/folk duo I blogged about quite a while back! Fun for all! Now to hook up that colour printer...

I need more FOTC in my life

Is anyone else super depressed about the lack of flight of the conchords in their life like I am? Well be sad no more with these lovely DIY brett and jemaine paper dolls from morgan gleave!

These really make me wish I had a colour printer! (oh wait...I do have one, it's just still in the box and there's no space for it in my room). Maybe I'll get motivated enough to go down to office depot and get them done there...then I could recreate my own quirky FOTC episodes! Hahaha! Could you imagine! I better get on this...

Brahbrah

Do you ever watch a movie and instead of just enjoying the film, you spend the whole time obsessing over where you know that actor from? I'm definitely one of those people. I don't want to admit defeat and run to the computer to check either, I'd rather have the satisfying realization on my own, you know? I had one of those moments the other day when I was watching Whip It. I really enjoyed the movie (being a sucker for girly feel good flicks) but I just couldn't pin point where I knew the roller derby team captain "Maggie Mayhem" from! Here she is on the right:

I knew she played some odd-ball character in some quirky show but which one was it? After many moments of torment I figured it out! What other show am I that obsessed enough with to sculpt remotely referenced characters from and sell them on etsy? Why flight of the conchords of course! I quote that show daily! How could I not have an intimate imaginary relationship with each episodes' characters? That's right - Kristen Wiig played Brahbrah in season two (that crazy woman who lost her epileptic dog). There she is:

*Sigh* I feel so much better now for solving that puzzle! Until next time...

Get your hand off my tail, you'll make it dirty

At long last the return of albi magnet sets:

Based on the loving tale of Albi the racist dragon, this magnet set depicts characters seen on HBO's Flight of the Conchords (season 1, episode 7)

Set includes: Albi the racist dragon, the badly burnt Albanian boy from the day before, and that magical dragon tear turned jelly bean (all the colours of the rainbow) that put a stop to racism in New Zealand!

These polymer clay gems have been a hot seller since my shop's opening in october '08 allowing me to not only practice being an obsessive Jemaine Clement fan but also my mad sculpting and painting skills. This is the fourth time I've recreated my original magnet set and finally I've decided to go big or go home...

well...not that big...
