Friday Find: Little Ocean

Today's find is the wonderful necklaces from Janelle's etsy shop Little Ocean. Even though the majority of her shop is clothing from vintage and recycled fabrics, I quickly feel for her wonderful chevron necklace. Just take a peek:

Oh the colours, the shape, the simplicity, and that long hanging length! Turns out I'm not the only one who has fallen for this one, when I looked in her sold items list there were loads of these! Funny how that works isn't it? I'm really loving long necklaces these days since they seem to elongate my super short torso and really top off my jersey dress outfits. Chevron now your thing? How about some lacy triangles?

Regular triangles?

Yup, I'm in love! What do you think? Are you a long necklace fan?

Friday Find: Allisa Jacobs

Since January is all about new starts, organization, and cool wintry blue tones (or at least I think it is) I thought I'd chose the lovely sewn goods of Allisa Jacobs for today's Friday find. Her shop is stocked full of wonderful pieces each with perfect fabric choices and lovely details. Just take a peek at this amazing chevron pouch:

Isn't it darling? I love the contrast of colours, simplicity, and that awesome red poppy pin that you can detach and stick on anything! If you're swooning over the pin (much like I am) you can buy them on their own as a brooch, or if you'd prefer some different designs how about one of Allisa's clutches, snap pouches, or to do list organizers:

I must say the list organizer on the right hand side there is really calling to me. Maybe it would even help me stick to getting things done? Okay...probably not, but I do love all the goodies in the shop! What do you think? Which is your favourite?

In other news - Mom and Uncle Gary come to visit today! After an early morning of work I'm off to the airport to pick them up and then we've got until Sunday afternoon to see the sights and get some visiting in! Now to decide what to do...

Bring on the Chevron!

Time to combine my love for chevron patterns and jewelry by making this amazing chevron necklace from Dismount Creative:

All you need is minimal jewelry making skills, a little nail polish, and voila! you've got yourself one new awesome necklace for friends to drool over. I am semi tempted to skip the metal and go with polymer clay (since I already have that at home and wouldn't require me having to leave the house) but we'll see. I've got hours of button making going on at the moment so I will leave this project on the back-burner until I have a little more free time. What do you think? Are you getting your metal snips out as we speak?

Pouf Sunday

I saw this amazing chevron ottoman pouf on etsy last night and fell in love:

Not only does it rock the zig zag chevron stripe trend in a lovely neutral gray and white, but it also allows for comfortable lounging as a foot stool! If you haven't had the pleasure of sitting with your feet on an ottoman you had better get one - it is amazing! Although I usually sit on the chaise end of our couch for leg support, I do own a crafty upcycled footstool my mom and I made by upholstering and stuffing an overturned milk crate with denim (which, by the way looks great...and I should have taken a picture of for this post). Anyways, I got to thinking about how much I love homemade ottomans and thought I'd do a pinterest roundup of some of my favourite poufs! Let's go:

Pouf #1 - Knitted and orange! I love the textures, simplicity, and pop of bright color! Too bad I am not a master knitter...

Pouf #2 - Floral and sewn (and has a cat)! Similar to the chevron pouf I spotted above but with a completely differenet feel thanks to the change of fabric. I don't think the pattern would be that hard to make up and possibilities for colours and patterns is endless! Plus it has a cat! What's not to love?

Pouf #3
- Pom poms! Although substantially more difficult to clean this one combines the foot stool with one of my favourite crafts - the pom pom! Although I'm sure these ones are made from felt I think yarn poms would be an amazing addition to my living space. Just think of the texture! My legs/feet would be on brightly coloured bits of heaven each time I sat down! Oh my!

and Pouf #4 - Crocheted foot stool cover (with a bunny)! Not really a "pouf" so much as an ottoman with a granny square crocheted slip cover, but hey, they are all in the same family right? I love the pop of colour (again) with this one and how you could change it up to match your decor. I also really like the idea of skipping the ridiculous amount of stuffing you'd have to get for any of the above projects and instead just buy an old stool to recover! Hurrah for a more inexpensive project and an excuse to go thrift shopping! Plus it has a bunny! Eee!

So what do you think? Which is your favourite? Are you a foot stool user? Ever made a pouf?

Chevron Wednesday!

I'm a huge fan of following the crafty trends and just as I predicted back in January, chevron prints are totally rising the crafty charts in 2011! Okay, so maybe they aren't insanely popular (yet), but I am loving all the zig-zag projects on pinterest! Let's take a peek at my fav three:

1) Shoe box lid wall art:

Just my type of project - quick, inexpensive, and in an awesome colour scheme! I think I'd prefer to make some little canvases (well...probably more like ask Fraser to make me some) for a more long lasting art installment! Fun!

2) DIY chevron pillow covers from stripey fabric:

Well even though turning striped fabric into zig zags isn't totally rocket science I totally love the yellow and cream finished product! Perhaps not the perfect project for my house (with my already striped throw pillows and striped love seat), but I'd love to make some DIY chevron fabric for say...a clutch? Sounds lovely! Ok, so finding chevron fabric might be a smidge easier than making me own but it is a nice option regardless...

3) Chevron wall!

Hooray! Bring on the chevron! Yup - not so likely that I'll be doing this project any time soon (being a non home owner and all...) but I still think it's super awesome!

So how about you? In love with the chevron prints like me? I definitely need to keep my eyes peeled for chevron accessories to fill my chevron void in my life. Also I think chevron prints may have made their way into my crafty heart up there with pom poms and doilies...and I've said "chevron" entirely too many times during this blog post. Happy Wednesday!
