As it turns out, finding lace bits that I actually like (and aren't covered in pearls, rhinestones, and sequins) is much more difficult than I thought it would be. Rats. After many months of searching everywhere I finally came across one piece that might do the trick and is wonderfully subtle too:
I really like how it isn't overly frilly but just fancy/doily enough to be special. Now I just need to get some starch and somehow work this into a hair band for my undecided hairdo for the big celebration! Oh is that all? Hmm. What do you think?
I think it's a lovely way of doing things. And people at the reception party should know you are the bride! I don't think you should worry about not being recognised, your guests will know who you are and how special the day is regardless of how you are dress.
ReplyDeleteI am also not going for a big ball gown, but a 50s style dance dress, and no veil. I am opting for fake flowers in my hair. I found miniture turquoise tulips and they are just perfect!
What a beautiful idea... so simple and elegant! I love it!
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your search and bridal design! I can't wait to see what you come up with. Maybe you can find some inspiration from this lady:

She makes gorgeous vintage lace chokers, fascinators and other accessories.
Beautiful lace! If I were you I'd starch it and attach (hot glue? invisible thread?) it to a headband similar in color to your hair.
ReplyDeleteThat's really pretty, I think it is going to look great!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a lovely idea - I think you will look great ^_^ My wedding dress was also tea-length and based on a vintage dress I had - it looked very nice and it is much more practical to have something you can wear again after!
ReplyDeletelove love!
ReplyDeleteI am doing the same, tea length dress and do it myself lace headpiece. I agree that finding the lace was MUCH more difficult than I thought that it would be! My first starching attempt was with spray starch and it just didn't give it the stiffness that I needed so now I am moving own to glue recipes.
ReplyDeleteA doily fascinator sounds parfait!
